From August 8–18, 2025, explore the beauty of Scotland with Eric Van Tassell.
Our odyssey through this enchanting nation starts with four days in Edinburgh, with time to take in the Fringe Festival, a Military Tattoo performance, sightseeing, museums and independent exploration. What follows is a five-day journey through the Scottish Highlands that includes a stay in a stunning country estate, engaging museums, majestic palaces and castles, lush gardens, delightful distilleries, historic battlefields, peaceful lochs and epic views throughout. Tour Highlights
This tour begins in Edinburgh with
- An in-depth guided city tour
- A visit to historic Edinburgh Castle
- The Fringe Festival
- A tour of the Palace of Holyroodhouse
- The famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo
- Greyfriars Kirk
- The Museum of Scotland
The next stop is Perth on the River Tay — including St. John’s Kirk, the interesting Black Watch Museum and Scone Palace and Gardens — and Perthshire. Then onto the House of Bruar in Pitlochry and continue via the Cairngorms National Park to Culloden and Inverness, considered the capital of the Scottish Highlands.
Then onto the breathtaking Isle of Skye — includes stops at Kilt Rock, the Trotternish Peninsula, and Fairy Glen, Portree (the island’s capital) and Dunvegan Castle and Gardens.
Our trip will end with a scenic journey through Glencoe, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

Eric Van Tassell '06
Assistant Professor of Dance and Theatre - Lighting and Sound DesignEric Van Tassell has been a faculty member in both Hope’s theatre and dance departments since 2019, where his primary focus is lighting design. He has decades of experience working on stages ranging from exploratory storefront theaters in Chicago to The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and is looking forward to sharing that knowledge and context with you as you explore the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the dramatic history and landscapes of Scotland.

Executive Director, Alumni and Family EngagementCourtney is an experienced higher education professional who leads Hope’s office of Alumni and Family Engagement. Throughout her career at multiple institutions, she has worked with students, faculty, staff, families, alumni, and community members to create opportunities for people to innovate, grow, and be empowered. With an interest in gaining new knowledge and appreciating cultures, Courtney is honored to travel with you and grateful for this immersive experience you will share.

The program fee is $6,995 per person. Based on double occupancy, it includes:
- Flights roundtrip from Detroit to Scotland
- Land transportation for the complete itinerary by deluxe, air-conditioned motorcoach
- Accommodations for nine nights in first-class hotels
- Breakfast daily and seven dinners
- Experienced Scottish tour manager to accompany the group
- Sightseeing and admission fees in accordance with the itinerary
- Tickets to one event of the Fringe Festival and to the Military Tattoo
- Tipping and taxes for all included services
- Use of whisper guides (personal headsets) for the week
