Support for Faculty
Energize your research and teach more effectively with the help of a librarian.
- Library Liaison Program
-
Each department has a designated librarian who is committed to working with its faculty and students. Click below to read about the library liaison program.
- Library Instruction Sessions
-
Librarians teach a wide array of course-embedded library sessions, ranging from general information literacy in FYS and English 113 to subject-specific research tools and techniques in the disciplines.
- Build the Collection
-
Van Wylen Library needs your help in making the collection relevant to student and faculty needs. Tell us what materials would best serve your courses and your own research.
We welcome your donation of books and media in good condition that support the research, curricular, and recreational interests of students and faculty. Retiring faculty interested in donating their office libraries should contact Jessica Hronchek (hronchek@hope.edu, x7124) for instructions.
Archives and Special Collections collects the papers of faculty members from all academic departments. These papers constitute an essential part of the historical record of Hope College and document the contributions of its faculty to scholarship, research, teaching, and public service.
- Ebooks as Textbooks
-
Curious if a library ebook might be available to replace a textbook you usually ask students to purchase? The library is happy to explore if it can purchase unlimited-user ebooks to replace course texts and save students money. This is more likely to be an option for course texts that are not traditional textbooks. Check with your Liaison Librarian or the Head of Collections and Access (hronchek@hope.edu) for more information.
- Streaming Video
-
If you use streaming video in your classes, let us know by completing this form:
If you would like to show a library-owned DVD during face-to-face class time, fill out the course reserve form. Please allow 15–30 days for the library to acquire and process a video request for classroom use.
- Put Materials on Course Reserve
-
You may place personal or library copies of materials on reserve for student use each semester. These items will be located behind the Circulation Desk and have restricted check out periods.
- Web-Based Course Guides
-
A Research Guide presents a list of resources curated by a librarian, in cooperation with the instructor, to support students in a particular course or discipline.
- Student Plagiarism Education
-
The library can provide support in citation and plagiarism through educational resources, online tutorials and information literacy sessions. If you suspect a student has plagiarized, librarians can work with you in an attempt to determine if select passages were used without attribution. Please contact the Research and Instruction Librarians if you have any questions. The Provost's Office provides information on Hope's Academic Integrity process.
- Faculty Study Carrels
-
Van Wylen Library has a limited number of study carrels available for faculty use. Carrels are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis each semester and may be renewed, with priority given to faculty members on sabbatical.
