The search for the 14th president of Hope College
Matthew A. Scogin Named 14th President of Hope College
Hope College has selected an innovative leader from outside higher education as its 14th president, with the global search that the college conducted also having led to someone with strong Hope ties. Matthew A. Scogin, who is chief administrative officer at the global financial advisory firm of Perella Weinberg Partners in New York City and has also held senior positions with both the New York Stock Exchange and U.S. Treasury Department, was elected by the college’s Board of Trustees on Friday, Dec. 7. A 2002 Hope graduate who is currently a member of the board, he will assume office on July 1, 2019.
The mission of Hope College is to educate students to lives of leadership and service in our world. To do this in the context of the historic Christian faith. To do it through excellent academic programs and co-curricular activities. The mission of the college is the cornerstone of our search. We seek the person who is called to live this mission with us in the years to come.
The Search Committee represents the perspectives of our community – students, staff, faculty, the administration and the board. With the college’s Virtues of Public Discourse as our guide, as a committee and as a community, we seek to listen, welcome, understand, challenge and speak truth in love.
The college’s mission is our cornerstone, the virtues are our guide, the prayers of the people of Hope are our inspiration, and the Lord’s wisdom is the light (Proverbs 3:5-6) for our search. Thank you for your prayers. It is with a deep sense of excitement that we anticipate bringing the next President of Hope to the College.
