Breaks

Each academic year the college schedules times for students to have a break from their classes. Below you will find each break listed and the set of expectations as it relates to residential communities.

FALL BREAK

Fall break begins at Friday, October 7, 2022, at 6 p.m. and ends Tuesday, October 11. Classes resume Wednesday, October 12. Hope residential communities are open during fall recess.  However, for emergency purposes we ask that you register if you will be sleeping on campus during fall break. Please complete the form below. You will get a confirmation of your response, but no additional approval communication is needed.

THANKSGIVING BREAK

Thanksgiving break begins at Thursday, November 24, 2022, and ends Sunday, November 27. Classes resume Monday, November 28. Hope residential communities are open during Thanksgiving recess. However, for emergency purposes we ask that you register if you will be sleeping on campus during Thanksgiving break. Please complete the form below. You will get a confirmation of your response, but no additional approval communication is needed.

Please note that Hope College meal plans will not be in effect during Thanksgiving Break. The dining halls and the Kletz will be closed Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Students are responsible for making their own arrangements for food during this time. There will be a Meijer shuttle run from 6–8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22 (meet at DeWitt Flag pole).

Thanksgiving Recess Sign-Up 

SEMSTER (CHRISTMAS) BREAK

Hope residential communities close for semester (Christmas) break starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022. All residents are expected to be out of their respective living unit by this time, unless they have received approval from Residence Life to stay late after filling out the Request to Remain Late form. Remain late request are designed for students who need to remain on campus due to on-campus academic commitments, on-campus employment, coach-supported athletic events or delayed travel arrangements.

Remain late requests for personal reasons are reviewed, but likely not granted. If approved, a $75 housing fee will be billed to your student account for each day you remain on campus after December 16.

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO SUBMIT AN REMAIN LATE REQUEST

Please follow the steps listed below to submit a remain late request.
 
  • Go to events.hope.edu
  • Log in using your 1hope name and password 
  • Scroll through reservation templates until you find "Student Request to Arrive Early or Remain Late"
  • Click "Book" which is two the right
  • Under date, click the calendar and then click on the Recurrence button
  • Leave the recurrence set to daily and then select all the days you need to stay
  • Click Apply Recurrence
  • Next select your location by clicking add/remove
    • This will pull up a place where you can search for your housing
    • Check the box next to your housing 
    • Click update locations
  • When your housing location appears, click the green plus symbol next to your room.
  • Click the blue next step button which is on the top right
  • Enter the following:
    • Event name: This will be your name
    • Select event type
    • Group: use the magnifying glass and search for "Hope College Student"
    • Enter your name as the 1st person contact
    • Enter your hope email address
    • Scroll down and select the responsible department
    • Explain your request
    • Select your reason for the request
    • Click on green "Create Reservation" button.
WINTER BREAK

Winter break begins at Friday, February 10, 2023, at 6 p.m. and ends Tuesday, February 14. Classes resume Wednesday, February 15. Hope residential communities are open during winter recess. However, for emergency purposes we ask that you register if you will be sleeping on campus during winter break. Please complete the form below. You will get a confirmation of your response, but no additional approval communication is needed.

SPRING BREAK 

Spring break begins at Thursday, March 16, 2023, and ends Sunday, March 26. Classes resume Monday, March 27. Hope residential communities are open during spring break. However, for emergency purposes we ask that you register if you will be sleeping on campus during spring break. Please complete the form below. You will get a confirmation of your response, but no additional approval communication is needed.

Please note that Hope College meal plans will not be in effect during spring break. The dining halls and the Kletz will be closed starting Friday, March 17, until dinner Sunday, March 26. Students are responsible for making their own arrangements for food during this time. There will be a Meijer shuttle run from 6–8 p.m. on Thursday, March 16 (meet at DeWitt Flag pole).

Spring Break Sign-Up 

EASTER BREAK

Easter break begins at Friday, April 7, 2023, and ends Monday, April 10. Classes resume Tuesday, April 11. Hope residential communities are open during Easter break. However, for emergency purposes we ask that you register if you will be sleeping on campus during Easter break. Please complete the form below. You will get a confirmation of your response, but no additional approval communication is needed.

Please note that Hope College meal plans will not be in effect during easter break. The dining halls and the Kletz will be closed starting Friday, April 7, until dinner Monday, April 10. Students are responsible for making their own arrangements for food during this time. There will be a Meijer shuttle run from 6–8 p.m. on Thursday, April 6 (meet at DeWitt Flag pole).

Easter Break Sign-Up
