Beck Cottage

Previously a different cottage at 154 East 13th, the current cottage at 349 Columbia was converted to student housing in the fall of 1987 and can house up to 6 students.

This cottage is named in honor of Theodore R. Beck, who was a chaplain during the Civil War and was later appointed to Hope in 1864 by the General Synod of the Reformed Church in America. After resigning from Hope in 1885, he was appointed by the Japanese government to found a college in the southern cities of Japan based on the American college system in 1888.
